Bayou Critter Crawl

Friends of Bayou Lafourche is excited to bring a fun, family-friendly activity to downtown Thibodaux and would love for you to be a part of it!

We’re hosting a Bayou Critter Crawl, a seek-and-find style game using the Life on Our Bayou activity books as participants’ “passports.” These books were created through a project funded by Keep Louisiana Beautiful!

Here’s how it works:
You can pick up your activity book and passport at a participating downtown Thibodaux business. The businesses will have a small wooden bayou critter (created by Gumbo Weather) hidden somewhere inside the store. You can visit the businesses to search for the critter, and once you find it, the business will stamp your activity book passport.

Participants should visit multiple locations throughout downtown, collecting stamps as you go. Once you collect all of the stamps, you can turn in your passport at any of the participating businesses to receive a prize!

This is a great way to support local businesses, explore downtown Thibodaux, and be part of a fun, community-wide experience!

---

There is no cost to participate, all we ask is that you pick up an activity book and passport during the event and start collecting stamps!

We’re excited to bring a little extra fun and summer foot traffic to downtown and hope you’ll join us!

Life On Our Bayou Activity Book

Thanks to support from the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Healthy Communities Grant, Friends of Bayou Lafourche printed 5,000 Life on the Bayou activity books to help teach students and families about Bayou Lafourche, litter prevention, local wildlife, and environmental stewardship.

Approximately 4,300 books have already been distributed to schools in 4 parishes, libraries, daycares, the Altrusa International of Thibodaux, Louisiana Inc., little free libraries, Bayou Country Children's Museum, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, and other community locations across Assumption, Ascension, Lafourche, and Terrebonne parishes. The remaining books will continue to be shared at outreach events throughout the year. Let us know if your organization needs some!

We are grateful for this opportunity to inspire the next generation to protect and take pride in Bayou Lafourche.

Children's Museum Exhibit Mural

Friends of Bayou Lafourche will be sponsoring a new exhibit at the Bayou Country Children's Museum! It will be an interactive table exhibit and mural. You can visit the Bayou Country Children's Museum to see how the water goes from the bayou to your cup.

Sea Tow Foundation - Lifejacket Loaner Station

Melodia Boatlaunch

Since 2008, the Sea Tow Foundation has received funding from the Sport Fish Restoration & Boating Trust Fund, administrered by the U.S. Coast Guard, which has enabled distribution of over 106,000 life jackets to local businesses and organizations across the country. The over 1,300 life jacket loaner stations currently in operation are placed in locations where boaters will have easy access to the life jackets, such as boat ramps, marinas, and parks. See the map here. Boaters may borrow the life jackets at no cost and are asked to return them when they are finished so that they are available for others to use.

Bayou Lafourche has been awarded with a Lifejacket Loaner Station that will be installed at the Melodia Boat Launch soon!
